If you’re looking for podcasting tips, there are literally millions across the web. From growing your show, to what equipment to use, and more, there’s no shortage of advice available to you.
So I’m not going to replicate that here. Instead, and inspired by a Slack conversation with Mark Asquith, I thought I’d offer a different approach – podcasting tips using song titles by the legendary British rock band, Whitesnake, with a bonus playlist of the songs involved.
Sure you can monetize your podcast, but you need to make it worth monetizing. There Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City when it comes to sponsors.
You don’t always have to monetize – many podcasters simply do it All in the Name of Love.
Your podcast can be about Anything You Want, but a focus can help with growth.
Don’t let the Bad Boys with bad reviews put you off – look at the review, take any learnings that are there, and ignore the rest.
Enjoy yourself – listeners can hear in your voice what’s going on Behind The Smile, and that comes across in your show.
You don’t need the best podcast gear to have a great show – a lot of stuff is just a Bloody Luxury, so start with your own budget and build as you go.
To keep growing, Breakdown what’s working and build from that.
Sometimes you’ll feel you Can’t Go On, and this is perfectly normal – take a breath, regroup, ask other podcasters for help/advice, and take things from there.
Success takes time – you need to be ready to Carry Your Load during the quiet spells.
Allow yourself a Celebration of all your victories, small and large.
Don’t go Crying In the Rain if you don’t get a million downloads in the first month – patience is the key.
Podcasting is a long-term endeavour – plan for the long haul and how to overcome bumps in the road so you Don’t Fade Away.
Watch YouTube videos, listen to other podcasters, gather feedback from your listeners. This can all help when it comes to Gettin’ Tighter with your production and editing.
Successful podcasts grow from being invested in your show, as opposed to a Here I Go Again mindset.
As an indie podcaster, especially a solo podcaster, be prepared for Lonely Days Lonely Nights as you’re putting your creation together. But it’s worth it.
Mean Business from the start – show listeners what to expect, and create a plan for you to deliver that consistently.
Trying to be everything to everyone can dilute your podcast success – instead, stick to Playing Your Game and what you want to offer with your show.
Be Ready and Willing to pivot an idea, based on analytics and general feeling about the direction of your show.
Don’t be afraid to take things Slow And Easy in order to find your groove – it can return more success than rushing head first without a long-term plan.
Some of the best ideas come in the Still of the Night – have a notepad ready to write them down.
Work on your mic technique, and the flow of your narration, and become the kind of Sweet Talker listeners can’t ignore.
The Deeper the Love you have for your show and topic, the more enjoyable it’ll be.
Always be optimizing. Check your analytics, what promos work, what channels/apps drive most listeners, etc, and tweak your approach Time And Again to strengthen these victories.
If something doesn’t work right away, don’t shed Too Many Tears – see what did work, what didn’t, and go again to build around what worked.
